The Elan Story

Crystal's Vision

Elan Hair and Spa is the continuing vision of Crystal Hohenwarter, an amazing woman who was an inspiration to anyone who knew her. With beauty, patience and an ever-present positive outlook on life, she gave renewed energy to those around her. She had the ability to see the beauty and goodness in everyone and loved to motivate others to achieve their dreams.

In 1988 Crystal opened Elan Hair Design with the vision of offering an escape from the everyday stresses of life by creating an atmosphere promoting wellness and beauty. Her goal was to offer services that nurtured her guests and an environment where employees enjoyed working.

Within a year, Crystal deepened her commitment to wellness by choosing to exclusively use Aveda products for all services. Known for their support of environmental causes and the use of plant-based ingredients in their products, Aveda also promotes a holistic approach to beauty, focusing on the importance of wellness. Aveda takes into consideration, "the effects of our products not only on hair or skin but on body, mind, and emotion".

In 1999 Crystal moved the salon to its current location at 1401 Oregon Pike, changing the name to Elan Hair and Spa and expanding services to include massage, nail treatments, and skincare. Hair and nail services are offered on the main floor, massage and skincare on the lower level, while her husband Steve occupies the second floor where he continues to practice as a CPA.

In February of 2000, we lost Crystal to breast cancer, but under the leadership of her husband Steve, we strive to continue the legacy of this extraordinary woman; to find the beauty within ourselves and others. The strength of Elan lies in its history, beliefs, standards, and visions for the future and the legacy of Crystals' Vision.

Our Continued Pledge

Elan Hair and Spa is deeply committed to maintaining a staff of highly trained professionals, and to help them grow and develop their talent. To achieve that goal, we require all our team members to regularly attend continuing education classes, because we believe that learning never ends.
